Multi Combination (MC) licence

The MC licence is the highest truck licence in Australia, for B-doubles and road trains on long-haul, freight and mining work.

You can go straight from HR to MC without getting HC first. The course covers coupling and uncoupling, reversing, handling more than one trailer, load restraint and emergency procedures.

MC courses are run through RAISE Training (RTO 91655), a government-approved Registered Training Organisation, for the nationally recognised unit TLIC4006 Drive multi-combination vehicle.

What you can drive

• Any Heavy Combination (HC) vehicle
• B-doubles
• Road trains (a prime mover towing more than one trailer)

Common work: Long-haul freight, livestock, fuel and mining haulage across regional Queensland and interstate.

Before you start

• A full HR or HC licence held for at least 1 year. Time on a P2 HR licence counts, but MC driving practice can't start until you hold a full HR or HC.
• If your licence has a medical condition, a medical certificate for the MC class.

How it works

1. Do the MC course any time after you get your HR or HC licence.
2. There's no TMR written test: the theory is part of the course with us.
3. Pass the theory and practical assessments, and RAISE Training issues your Statement of Attainment for TLIC4006 Drive multi-combination vehicle.
4. Once you've held your HR or HC for 12 months, take your Statement of Attainment, current licence and ID to a TMR Customer Service Centre and pay the upgrade fee. MC is then added to your licence.
