Heavy Rigid (HR) licence
Rigid trucks and buses with three or more axles. Automatic, or unrestricted on an 18-speed Road Ranger.
An HR licence is one of the most useful heavy vehicle licences in Queensland. It opens the door to work in transport, construction, mining, councils and emergency services.
Train for an automatic HR, or an unrestricted HR on an 18-speed Road Ranger gearbox. An unrestricted licence lets you drive manual trucks too, not just automatics.
What you can drive
- Any Medium Rigid (MR) vehicle
- Rigid trucks and buses over 8 tonnes GVM with three or more axles
- Mobile cranes, and prime movers driven without a trailer
- Articulated buses
- Towing a trailer up to 9 tonnes GVM
Common work: Tippers, waste trucks, concrete agitators, delivery trucks and coaches.
Before you start
- A car (C) licence held for at least 2 years, or
- A Light Rigid (LR) or Medium Rigid (MR) licence held for at least 1 year.
- The time must be within the last 5 years. It can be one stretch or several (not counting any time your licence was suspended, surrendered, cancelled or expired).
How it works
- Hold your current licence class for the time needed (above).
- Pass the TMR road rules (written) test. You book and pay for this with TMR yourself.
- Train one-on-one with your trainer in Gympie until you're ready.
- Pass the TMR practical driving test. We book it with TMR and pay the test fee, and you sit it in our truck: it's all included in your package.
HR packages
Every package includes your TMR practical driving test: we book it, pay the test fee, and you sit it in our truck (truck hire included). Extra lessons, or another test if you need one, cost extra. All prices
