To apply for the next higher class of license, except for Multi Combination license MC, you must:
- have had your current license class or truck  license for the required period (see the table below)
- bring your license or other evidence of identity documents if your license has been lost, stolen or destroyed
- pay the road rules test fee and pass the test,
- if required pay the practical driving test fee, book and pass the test.

How to get a Multi Combination License in Queensland

Multi combination License Upgrades

A Multi Combination (MC) license is the highest level of truck license in Australia, allowing you to drive B-doubles and road trains. It's ideal for drivers aiming for long-haul, freight, or mining industry roles.

- You must have held a Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) license for at least 12 months.
- You can go directly from HR to MC without needing to get a HC license first.
- Enroll in an MC Training Course with a TMR-approved Registered Training Organization (RTO), 
- Complete at least the minimum hours required  
- Complete a Practical Assessment
-Your RTO will conduct a formal assessment of your driving skills and competency.
- Once you pass, you’ll be issued a Statement of Attainment for the unit: TLILIC0024 – Obtain a Multi-Combination vehicle license.

- Upgrade Your License at TMR

Visit a Queensland TMR Customer Service Centre with your: Current HR or HC license, your  Statement of Attainment and Proof of ID and  Pay the license upgrade fee and your MC license will be added to your record.

For all licence upgrades there is a minimum of  at least 1 year required before you can upgrade.

You can upgrade straight from a 'c' class licence to Heavy Rigid licence after having held your 'c' class car licence for a minimum of 2 years
